Visting Teaching

Today, I was planning my visiting teaching message for the month, and saw this video on You Tube. For those of you who are member's of of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), you may relate. For those of you who aren't, "Visiting Teaching" is something the women of the church 18 and older are asked to participate in. Every woman gets assigned some women to visit in the church and someone to visit them also. Once a month, we are asked to visit and share a message of faith with those women and check in on how their doing personally. It's a great opportunity to make friends and strengthen our testimonies together-- as well as provide service for those who may need it (look out for each other).

I have gained a better testimony of visiting teaching as I have really taken the time to dive into the lessons and make a VERY special effort to personalize the lesson for the woman I am sharing it with. This has helped me to reclaim my individual identity as Lindsay--who can be humorous, and who can critically think and expand on ideas.

Lately, my routine has caused me to feel like a very bland and muted person.  I just, sleep, go to work, make dinner, play with Enoch, put Enoch to bed, let Shaun do his homework--take a shower, dry my hair, watch a show on Hulu, go to bed...start again. Planning my visiting teaching messages has proven to be an exhilaration excercise for my mind to reinterpret and process the message from the church to suit the needs of Julia (The woman I visit teach). I have felt really happy and it has shaken up my routine and made me more aware of how to use my free time in a rewarding manner. Yeah!
